§ 2. Scope of application
The relationship between transcript Verlag (in the following: the seller) and the customer is characterized exclusively by the following general business terms and conditions that were or are in effect at the time the customer’s order was placed.
§ 3. Orders
You are welcome to browse our range of products. If you find a title that interests you, place the product in the virtual shopping cart by clicking the button “Add to shopping cart”. Naturally, you have the option to remove items from the shopping basket at any time.
By clicking the button “Proceed to checkout” you can start the ordering process and log on with your customer details or create a new customer account. In order for us to receive your order, please provide your personal information such as your name, address, etc. Red highlighting indicates that the information entered is incorrect. The order cannot be placed unless all the information is identified as correct by the system. Afterwards, please select your payment method. You can choose between the payment methods invoice (for orders from Germany only), credit card, direct debit, Sofort Banking, iDeal (for the Netherlands only), eps (for Austria only) and PayPal. (The options “invoice” and “PayPal” are not available if you wish to purchase an e-book.) The information provided by you will be displayed before you are asked to click the “Buy now” button. Please check all the information carefully and make corrections as necessary. Additionally, you will be able to view all the products you have previously placed in the shopping cart and to delete individual items or the entire content of the cart.
The overview shows you the total cost including all potential additional costs that might be charged in connection with your order. Please tick the box “I have read the General terms and conditions of your shop and accept them.” after reading our general business terms and conditions. In case your shopping cart contains an e-book, please also tick “ I want immediate access to the digital content and I acknowledge that thereby I waive my right to cancel once the service has begun.” In order to dispatch your order to us, please click the button “Buy now”. After you have clicked the button, you are asked to enter your credit card or bank account details. Then please click the button “Pay now” in order to complete the ordering process. In case you wish to acquire the user licence for a digital product, the file is available immediately. You find all the e-books purchased in the transcript shop under “Digital Bookshelf” in your customer account. you can also download the e-book file via the link “Download e-book here” in the overview of your order. Before you are asked to send off your order by clicking the “Buy now” button you have the option to alter the details by clicking the “Change” buttons or to delete details by clicking the “X” button at any stage of the ordering process. In order to change the quantity of an item you would like to purchase, please click on the dropdown menu and choose the quantity you would like to order
A click on the button “Buy now” initiates the order that is forwarded to us. With your order you bindingly declare your willingness to purchase the items previously placed in the shopping cart.
§ 4. Conclusion of contract for print products
By ordering from the transcript online shop you form a contract with: transcript, Roswitha Gost und Dr. Karin Werner GbR, Hermannstrasse 26, 33602 Bielefeld, Germany.
You will be notified immediately of receipt of your order via e-mail with the subject line “Your order from transcript”. The order confirmation is sent automatically and does not constitute our acceptance of the contract. The purchase contract is formed by us through our acceptance of your order; the conclusion of a contract and the dispatch of the order are confirmed in a second e-mail with the subject line “Auftrags- und Versandbestätigung”. You will receive this e-mail at the latest five days after we have received your order.
The text of the contract, including your order, is saved by us and can be sent to you along with the general terms and conditions on request.
The language available for the conclusion of a contract is German.
§ 5. Special conditions for the purchase of user licences for digital products
5.1) Digital products: Conclusion of contract
You acquire the right of use for digital products if there is at least one e-book (EPUB or PDF for download) in your shopping cart. The following frame conditions apply: The contract is formed between the buyer and the seller including these terms and conditions when the customer requests the download link after entering their personal information and selecting the desired contents. The buyer is obliged to provide true and complete information on the requested data. The purchase contract is formed by the seller by offering the file for download. Potential status updates do not constitute an acceptance of the offer.
The language available for the conclusion of a contract is German.
5.2) Digital products: scope of the right of use
With the conclusion of a contract the buyer acquires the non-exclusive, non-transferable, spatially and temporally unrestricted right of use for the downloaded content for private use. Forwarding the contents to third parties is prohibited, and commercial use requires our previous consent or a separate licence. The buyer must not remove copyright notes, etc. and does not possess the right to alter the contents or to edit or publicly reproduce them or to offer them for download.
We reserve the right to apply soft DRM (watermark) to our publications in order to protect their copyright.
5.3) Digital products: no returns
In the case of a purchase of goods that are provided via download (e-book files) the publishing house initiates the delivery process before the start of the cancellation period. Therefore, the cancellation right for e-books does not apply in the case of a purchase of the rights of use for digital products in our online shop. During the order process the customer is asked to tick the box “I want immediate access to the digital content and I acknowledge that thereby I waive my right to cancel once the service has begun.” Completing an order for which the customer is liable to pay by clicking the “Send order” button is possible only if the box has been ticked. By ticking the box the customer confirms their knowledge that the publishing house initiates the delivery of the product before the start of the cancellation period and that the cancellation right therefore expires.
5.4) Digital products: no time limit
After you have acquired the right of use for an e-book you can download it within an unlimited period of time.
5.5) Digital products: number of permitted downloads
You have unrestricted access to all the e-books purchased in the transcript shop via your “Digital Bookshelf” in your customer account at www.transcript-verlag.de.
5.6) Digital products: product features and system requirements
Formats: Our digital products are available as PDF and EPUB. Available editions of a product are listed on the respective product page where you can select your preferred format.
PDF: For viewing and working with an e-book on a PC or laptop, PDFs should be the format of your choice. In order to view a PDF your device needs a recent version of the Adobe Reader or of Adobe Digital Editions. Both programs can be downloaded and installed free of charge.
EPUB: EPUBs are usually read on e-reader devices or tablets and smartphones with an EPUB software. Our EPUBs, however, can also be read on a PC or laptop with the respective software (e.g. Adobe Digital Editions).
File size: Our EPUBs take up between 0.5 and 10 MB of storage space on your device. Our PDFs are between 0.5 and 300 MB in file size.
Copy protection: Our e-books are not protected through any technical protection measures, but instead carry a watermark which means you can use the file without restrictions. The purchased copy carries customer-specific data (e.g. e-mail address, customer number, order number and the like) that cannot be removed. The watermark allows us to track unauthorized copies to the original buyer. The creation of the watermark is subject to the data protection and privacy guidelines that apply to any purchase via our online shop.
5.7) Digital products: payment
Digital products cannot be ordered on account. Payment options are limited to credit card, direct debit, Sofort Banking, iDeal (for the Netherlands only) or eps (for Austria only). After clicking the button “Buy now” you are asked to enter your credit card or bank account details. Complete the order process by clicking the button “Pay now”. The digital product is available for download afterwards.
5.8) Digital products: use of the transcript digital bookshelf
Products that are provided online must be used only by the customer for their private means. Giving third parties access to the bookshelf or passing contents on to third parties is prohibited.
The customer’s access to our online products via the internet is password-protected. The customer is obliged to keep their access details and password confidential and to protect them from misuse by third parties. In this context we point out that our employees are not authorized to ask for passwords via telephone or in writing. The customer must notify us immediately in case of loss of their access data, their password or on suspicion of misuse of their details. Furthermore, we reserve the rights to deny access to our online products in case of misuse. Where directly responsible, the customer is liable for any misuse.
Availability: Generally, the bookshelf is accessible 24/7. We reserve the right to restrict access temporarily and within a reasonable scope in order to carry out maintenance works or to discontinue the service partially or entirely.
§ 6. Cancellation policy for orders of printed books and other physical items
Consumers are granted their statutory cancellation right. A consumer might be any natural person who concludes a legal transaction that does not primarily count as commercial or freelance activity (§13 BGB).
You have the right to cancel the contract within fourteen days without giving reasons.
The cancellation period of 14 days applies from the day that you or an authorized third person who is not the carrier has received the goods. In order to make use of your cancellation rights, you must notify the publisher (transcript Verlag, Hermannstrasse 26, 33602 Bielefeld, Germany, Tel: +49 521 393 797-0, Fax: +49 521 393 797-34, e-mail: email@example.com) of your wish to withdraw from the contract in an unequivocal declaration (for example, through a letter sent by mail, telefax or e-mail). You are welcome to use the standard withdrawal form available for download here: www.transcript-verlag.de/shopMedia/service_media/transcript/pdf/transcript_withdrawal-form.pdf.
In order to keep the cancellation period, it is sufficient for you to dispatch your message before the end of the cancellation period.
Implications of a cancellation
If you withdraw from the contract, we are liable to reimburse you for any costs including shipping costs (exempt are additional costs resulting from your choosing a different delivery form than the inexpensive standard delivery offered by us) that we have received from you immediately and at the latest fourteen days after we have received your notification of your withdrawal from the contract. For the reimbursement payment we use the same medium of exchange that was used for the initial payment unless we have explicitly agreed with you on a different medium; we do not charge you any additional fees for the reimbursement payment. We reserve the right to deny a reimbursement until we have received the goods or until you can provide evidence that you have dispatched them, depending on which is the earlier point in time.
You must send the goods back or return them to us in person immediately and at the latest within fourteen days after you have notified us of the withdrawal from the contract. The return period is maintained if you dispatch the goods within those fourteen days. The direct costs of the return of the goods are to be paid by you.
You are liable for any loss of value of our goods only if such loss of value is ascribable to rough handling on your part that is not necessary in order to test the quality, features and functionality of our products.

Exclusion from or early expiration of the cancellation right:
The customer has no cancellation right on orders of audio and video recordings or of sealed packages of computer software if the seal has been broken after the delivery.
Furthermore, there is no cancellation right for custom-made items that were produced to meet the customer’s personal needs.
There is no cancellation right for contracts that determine the delivery of newspapers, magazines and journals, or illustrated newspapers and magazines with the exception of subscription contracts.
§ 7. Cancellation policy for orders of digital products
In the case of goods that are provided via download (e-book files) the publishing house initiates the delivery process before the start of the cancellation period. Therefore, the cancellation right for e-books does not apply in the case of a purchase of the rights of use for digital products in our online shop. During the order process the customer is asked to tick the box “I want immediate access to the digital content and I acknowledge that thereby I waive my right to cancel once the service has begun.” Completing an order for which the customer is liable to pay by clicking the “Buy now” button is possible only if the box has been ticked. By ticking the box the customer confirms their knowledge that the publishing house initiates the delivery of the product before the start of the cancellation period and that the cancellation right therefore expires.
§ 8. Reservation of rights in case of non-availability of items
We reserve the right to cancel an order in case the ordered item is not in stock or out of print and therefore not available. In such a case you will be notified at once of the item’s non-availability and reimbursed immediately for any purchase price you may have already paid at that stage.
§ 9. Prices and shipping costs
Our prices are retail prices in Euro including statutory VAT (Mehrwertsteuer). Due to the German fixed book price law the price determined by the publisher for books produced in Germany is binding.
Shipping within Germany is free.
For orders from abroad we charge the following fees:
EUROPE (outside Germany)
- 1 book: €4.00
- up to 3 books: €10.00
- up to 5 books: €14.50
- up to 10 books: €20.00
- more than 10 books: €35.00
WORLD (outside Europe)
- 1 book: €5.00
- up to 3 books: €12.00
- up to 5 books: €20.00
- up to 10 books: €45.00
- more than 10 books: €85.00
Customs and import duties:
In the case of orders from outside Germany the recipient’s country might charge additional customs and import duties. Such costs will have to be paid by you. We do not influence the amount of such extra expenses.
§ 10. Payment
The purchase price is payable in total within fourteen days after the billing. Within Germany you can pay via bank transfer after you have received the invoice, via direct debit, credit card, Sofort Banking, or PayPal. Orders from outside Germany can be paid via credit card, direct debit, Sofort Überweisung, PayPal, iDeal (for the Netherlands only) or eps (for Austria only). The payment options “invoice” and “PayPal” are not available if you wish to purchase an e-book.
The seller reserves the right to charge a fee if the customer falls into arrears.
§ 11. Delivery
We deliver our products to addresses all over the world. Within Germany, the delivery period is usually between three and five working days; in the case of a delivery to an address outside of Germany customers can expect to receive their ordered goods within roughly one to three weeks after we have notified you of the reception of your order through our order confirmation. Unless otherwise agreed, the order is dispatched from our warehouse to the delivery address we received with the customer’s order. Please ensure that billing address and delivery address are correct and complete. Please also note that if a delivery is returned to us due to carrying a wrong or incomplete address, we will have to charge you for the additional shipping costs of the return through the parcel service and the second delivery. If the order cannot be delivered due to the recipient’s prolonged absence, we will also have to charge you for the additional costs connected to a second delivery. The invoice is enclosed with the goods even if billing address and delivery address differ. We charge a fixed-rate fee of €1.00 if you request the invoice to be sent separately from the ordered goods.
§ 12. Subscription to journals
For all our journals there are subscriptions available via the publisher. For more information please go to www.transcript-verlag.de/en/.
Please let us know about any changes of your address as soon as possible and in writing through an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note that if a delivery is returned to us due to carrying a wrong address, we will have to charge you for the additional shipping costs of the second delivery.
§ 13. Data protections
Data protection disclaimer
The use of our websites is possible without the visitor having to disclose any personal information.
We use the information provided to us by you as a customer in order to fulfil and process your order. The customer explicitly agrees to the collection, processing, and use of the data we have received in the context of the business relation. Information that is required for the delivery of the ordered goods is forwarded to the delivery firm that is instructed to deliver the order. If necessary, we forward required payment data to our house bank for the processing of payments. We do not forward your data to third parties or use them for advertising purposes.
We secure our website and other systems through technical and organizational measures against loss, damage and destruction, access, modification, or distribution of your data through unauthorized third parties. Despite regular checks, full protection against all risks is not possible.
According to Germany’s federal data protection law (Bundesdatenschutzgesetz), consumers have a right to obtain information regarding their personal data that has been stored as well as a right to have their data corrected, blocked, or deleted. The goods remain the property of the seller until the complete payment of the purchase price by the customer.

§ 17. Applicable law and place of jurisdiction
The law of the Federal Republic of Germany to the exclusion of the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods applies. If the customer is a retailer or a legal person or corporate entity the exclusive place of jurisdiction is the court responsible for the registered place of business of the company in Bielefeld, Germany.
